My journey into the world of weaving

Remember that first placemat?

It’s the one I cut off and then totally rethreaded. That took me a bit but so well worthwhile. You can read about that adventure here.

That first placemat had measurements off the loom of 22 3/4 in length and 15 inches in width. Today, I hemmed and washed it. For some reason, the hemming was a bit of a challenge and my hemming is still kind of amateurish. The final measurements are 19.5 in length and 14 in width. This will definitely help with the current placemats I am working on!

First placemat

I did not do any further weaving today but look forward to getting back to routine. We have been working hard on getting our pictures of Italy organized!

  1. Glad you are feeling better Susan!

I know what you mean about the pictures. It took me a long while to organize our England pictures but I am glad I did it.

  2. Sometimes rethreading is the only way to go! Especially if you are happier with the results. 🙂

  3. Oh Susan, I so know that rethreading pain. This current warp is 577 threads, and even though I checked, re-checked, checked along the way, marked off on my laptop, and otherwise was my total OCD threading self — I still had 3 threads that were wrong.

Fortunately, I have a stash of repair heddles that work perfectly with my looms and I also know how to tie heddles if necessary (thank goodness I only had to do that once — before I discovered store bought repair heddles). It was still a pain and a half, but not so bad as having to totally rethread.

It really is worth the pain of fixing the errors or even completely rethreading from the error(s) to the nearnest end of the reed — your work is lovely and deserves to reflect your talent.

    Weave on!

  4. And an Italy-inspired textile next? Can’t wait.

  5. Thank you all for your comments. Our pictures are finally organized so I can turn back to weaving. I will be gone this weekend but I bet I can mix in some weaving!
I am actually inspired by that towel we had – the small waffle weave and was so absorbent.
