My journey into the world of weaving

Commonground Fair 2009!

I am returned from the Commonground Fair in Unity, Maine! My sister and I spent all Friday afternoon in the Fiber Tent, talking to some of the Wednesday spinners, viewing a spinning wheel exhibit of all sorts of spinning wheels from many different countries, and just basically learning a lot!

We bought a Jacob Coopworth fleece together – that is 1/2 a bag. This is what my share looks like:

We are going to do the whole gamut with this fleece: clean, card, and spin! We bought a nice set of hand carders.

We each bought some wool fiber to spin from Hope Spinnery

I also managed to find an old college friend and his shop Down to Earth Pottery. I bought a mug from him.

My sister and I exchange spinning wheels. I now have the “Beauty” for a couple of months!

. My sister has the Louet. We bought the Louet together; she was given the “Beauty”! I am hoping Beauty and I get along! I certainly have a lot of spinning to do as yet!

And finally, I came home to find my last skein all dried. I spun alpaca and corriedale together. It feels very soft!

  1. What a lovely bunch of fleece and fiber! I can’t wait til next weekend. For me the year begins with the Fall Fiber Festival in Montpelier VA.

  2. I can smell the yummy shell of sheep all the way from here.

  3. Hi – I was at Commonground on Saturday. It was a beautiful fall day and it was packed. I spent lots of time in the Fibre Tent. Bought some felting supplies and was sorely tempted by some cashmere yarn – wonderously soft!
