My journey into the world of weaving

Holiday weekend

The scarf is coming right along. The 2/2 twill really adds a thickness to the scarf. I am eager to see how it finishes up.

Still spinning the white alpaca. Had to stop for a moment and figure out the squeaky noise. It is so dry in the house! I added some vaseline and that seems to have helped.

I am seeing the loom for sale next weekend. It is a 45″ Norwood, 4 shaft, 6 treadles. It is about 36 years old and has been tended lovingly. All my research shows that this is a good loom. My only hesitation and it isn’t big is that should I hold out for a loom with more shafts? Honestly I don’t feel the need for more complexity. And I think the greater width can meet my needs for more variety of projects. Open to any comments here!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. I have a four shaft and a eight shaft. Ask me which I prefer? The four shaft! Perhaps because the loom is sturdier, beautifully built and easy for me to thread. Perhaps because there are about a zillion things you can do with a four shaft loom. Perhaps because I love efficiency! Four shaft loom wins every time.

  2. Hi Katherine,
Thanks for this endorsement! I kind of feel that and going wider definitely broadens what I will be able to do!
