My journey into the world of weaving

Handspun and shuttles

I’m not sure how else to combine these two topics!

First the handspun. Here is my first skein spun on the Ashford – mohair and BFL.

I am now spinning some alpaca and BFL!

Then the shuttles. My Auntie Grace gave these two shuttles to me just this past weekend. One of my uncle’s first jobs was in a woolen mill where they used these shuttles! They’ve kept them all these years but she gave them to me gladly.

Not that I can use them! but I add them to my collection of old weaving and spinning tools. So thank you, Auntie Grace!

Back to the fiber

I am half way done with the second scarf. It is all Deerfield Valley alpaca silk, chestnut color. The weave is a broken twill.

I think it’s going to be a very soft scarf! And I like the alpaca silk fiber.

I am still spinning away! There’s volume if not beauty! Here are my two most recent skeins. The dark is what came with the Louet spinning wheel; the colored is merino corriedale combo.

And finally, I am preparing the next project which is using up a lot of my stash. I am using a Handwoven pattern for 4 handtowels to be woven in a waffle weave. I am not sure at all how these will come out but they’ll be fun!
